Tākitimu ki Waitangi 2025
Under the watchful eyes of our whānau including Kaumātua Koro Billyboy Borrell and Kui Ngaronoa Reweti-Ngata, Tākitimu was safely lifted out of the Wairoa River and placed on the truck to begin the journey to Waitangi.
Koro Billyboy shares some recollections from 35 years ago when the waka last went to Waitangi.
Our team will be posting lots of videos and photos throughout the week as our whānau start to make their way to Waitangi. Our chair and deputy head off this afternoon for the pōhiri for Iwi chairs, the first of our kaumatua begin their journey apopo and the kaihoe leave early Tuesday morning…stay tuned.
