Education

Education empowers, education transforms, education is a key catalyst for change in our lives. The Ngāti Ranginui Education Strategy (signed off by the Ministry of Education in 2015), recognises the importance of lifelong learning for our iwi and the significance it has for creating opportunities that define our own destiny.  Our Strategy provides a road map by which we as an iwi can achieve greater educational success, enabling outcomes that contribute positively to our iwi, hapū and whānau.

Education is a critical tool and is instrumental in our tribal growth, development and community transformation. We aim to foster an attitude of life-long learning from an early age that will open a world of opportunity for us as whānau, hapū and iwi. Education is a critical tool for our on-going tribal development. We are building capability and capacity for Ngāti Ranginui, for Tauranga Moana, Aotearoa and beyond!

For our initial steps to realising the benefits of this strategy, the Rūnanga has taken up an opportunity with the Ministry of Education to focus our activities in three key areas;

  1. To raise the level of achievement in literacy and numeracy for our tamariki in years 1-8
  2. To support our rangatahi aged 16-18 years to attain their NCEA Level 2 or a vocational equivalent
  3. To work with whānau empowering and supporting their involvement and active participation in the education of their tamariki and rangatahi.

 Our mahi in this space has enabled us to work in a number of schools across Tauranga which include Otūmoetai College, Tauranga Boys and Girls College, Te Wharekura o Mauao, Katikati College and Tauranga Intermediate School.
